A MAN

Adapted from Keiichiro Hirano’s novel, this searing investigation into the themes of identity and the nature of happiness won the Japanese Academy Awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Actress. 

After a divorce and the death of her youngest child, Rie moves to rural Japan and remains cautious about the possibility of another relationship until she meets the gentle Daisuke. But Rie’s second chance at happiness is abruptly interrupted when Daisuke dies in an accident. At the memorial service, Daisuke's estranged brother Kyoichi enters, sees a photo of the deceased, and declares, "This is not Daisuke." Rie contacts attorney Kido to pursue of the identity of the man who had lived his life as a different person. Kido’s investigation leads to a shocking truth.
