The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl
Winner of the Best Film at the Ottawa Animation Festival, Masaaki Yuasa’s (Lu Over the Wall, Mind Game) adaptation of Tomihiko Morimi’s bestseller focuses on a love-struck male university student, and his hapless crush on “The Girl With Black Hair”. Hoping to confess his feelings he follows her as she wanders though the mysterious and dream-like Kyoto night and the two experience a myriad of eccentric encounters.
Yuasa’s distinctive animation style and a witty script – blending both childish and adult humour – evoke a warm, whimsical and hallucinogenic adventure.
The film will be preceded by Yoshimi Itazu’s award-winning short Pigtails, a delicately powerful fable on a nation haunted by an enormous loss.
