Natsu Matsuri and Bon Odori Festival 2024
Are you ready to eat, be entertained, and dance!?
On Saturday, July 13th, 2024, the traditional summer festivities of Natsu Matsuri and the Bon Odori Festival will be back! The JCCC invites everyone to enjoy a lively festival atmosphere with games, great food, and spectacular performances. Many community organizations, including the Toronto Buddhist Church, come together to make this a unique event. Weather permitting, the event takes place outside in the parking lot or the Kobayashi Hall. You will have an opportunity to join in on the Bon Odori so bring your dancing shoes! We look forward to another year of this exciting JCCC and Community tradition. We hope to see lots of new and familiar faces. We’ll see you there!
This year there will be performances by:
- Kyowa Taiko
- Taiko class
- Ayame Kai
- Sakura Kai
- Himawari Buyo Kai
Something new! There will be yukata (summer cotton kimono) dressing services and simple bon-odori lessons for children, followed by Mini Kodomo Bon-odori !
5:00pm Yukata-dressing for children starts at the changing room located in front of the Dojo (Wood room)
5:15-6:15pm Bon-odori lessons start at Dojo (Wood room) ; Yukata-dressing will continue throughout.
*Children can join any time during the lessons and Mini Kodomo Bon-odori, Teenagers as well as parents with small children are welcome, too.
*Tokyo Ondo, Doraemon Ondo and Kodomo-bonodori-uta, etc. will be practiced, followed by a Mini Kodomo Bon Odori.
*The annual Bon Odori that starts at 7pm has a repertoire for Audience Participation where everyone is welcome to join. Tokyo Ondo is one of them so the children fresh from the mini lesson and mini Kodomo Bon-odori can join in!
