Japanese Language Registration and Class Assessment

If you have some experience with Japanese Language or have taken classes outside of the JCCC, you can use these self-assessment tests to determine which level would be appropriate.

If a test is too challenging, try the test a level below. If it is too easy, try the test a level above.

See the class schedule and more detail information from here.

JCCC membership is required. The membership can be purchased on the same ticket if you are not already a member.

Starting Spring 2026

Important Registration and Level Placement Policy – Please Read Carefully

  • Students are encouraged to carefully review course descriptions, prerequisites, and assessment results prior to completing registration.
  • The Japanese Language program has required prerequisites.  Students are fully responsible for selecting a level that meets these requirements at the time of enrollment.
  • To support accurate placement, assessment tests are provided on the Japanese Language class webpage (button above) and are strongly recommended before registering.
  • All registrations are final.  Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • Requests for level changes (within the first week only), must be submitted to registration@jccc.on.ca in writing by the participant. Any changes are subject to availability and will require re-registration by the participant in the correct level.  All changes are subject to an administrative fee of $50 + tax.
  • By registering, students confirm that they have reviewed and accepted these terms and policies.
