JCCC Workshop Series: Cooking for Active Seniors
The JCCC workshop series, Cooking for Active Seniors, is for seniors looking to prepare easy yet flavourful meals with minimal effort. These workshops focus on making cooking enjoyable and accessible, while still delivering delicious results.
Each session offers participants an engaging opportunity to learn about nutrition, various cooking methods, and ingredients commonly found in a Japanese pantry. During each workshop, attendees will prepare and cook both a main dish and either a side dish or dessert. At the end of the session, participants have the chance to savour and enjoy the fruits of their labour.
The workshops prioritise the use of proteins and vegetables that are typically found in most refrigerators or are easily available at local grocery stores, ensuring that recipes are practical and accessible.
Many of the Japanese Canadian homestyle recipes featured in the workshops have been passed down through families, sourced from community cookbooks, or drawn from the JCCC’s Just Add Shoyu cookbook. In addition, some traditional Japanese recipes are by chefs who specialise in Japanese homestyle cooking. Regardless of the source, all recipes are chosen for their ease and the enjoyment they bring to the cooking process
