Interview with Dr. Arnold Arai

Arnold Arai was born on April 14, 1928 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The interview is about Arnold Arai and his family’s life in Collingwood, Vancouver (prior to World War II), Powell Street, Tashme, Okanagan, and Hope, BC. He discusses living and working conditions in Tashme and recounts social and sport activities in Tashme. School education was taught by the United Church, through which he married. He was labelled ‘enemy alien’ during internment period, which affected his relationship with his peers. After the end of the war, there were a lot of discussions in the community about deportation to Japan. Arnold went on to pursue his medical education, internship at St. Michael’s Hospital, and eventually employment in the medical field.
