Purpose:
The award came from a desire to remember and recognize the dedication and loyalty to Canada of the Nisei Veterans during WWII. To this end, this award recognizes young people in the JCCC’s Martial Arts/Odori Dance Programs who exemplify the spirit and values inherent in the Nisei Veterans.
Award:
A permanent plaque is on display in the JCCC near the dojos - names of successful candidates are added each year. The winner will also receive a certificate and one (1) year of class tuition and membership at the JCCC. The winner(s) will be announced and awards presented each year at Arigato Day.
Criteria:
The award recognizes the values exemplified by the Nisei Veterans and celebrates the passing of these qualities to a new generation. A list of characteristics follows. The candidate(s) should have a demonstrated history of displaying or exemplifying at least one or more of the following characteristics:
- Loyalty
- Integrity
- Perseverance
- Good Citizenship
- Determination
- Courage
- Service
- Participation
