Hina Matsuri 2026

Hina Matsuri returns on March 8, 2026!

Formerly known as Haru Matsuri, Hina Matsuri is a welcoming, all-ages celebration inspired by the traditional Doll Festival. The Centre comes alive with hina doll displays, crafts, performances, food, and hands-on activities, inviting families and friends to gather and welcome spring together.

This year’s theme, Omote–Ura (“Front and Back”), explores the visible and hidden sides of identity. Rooted in the festival’s wish for the healthy growth and happiness of girls, the program brings this meaning into the present through art and cultural experiences that reflect the light and shadow, strength and vulnerability of Japanese and Japanese-diaspora women.

Persian Painting bookmarks

Through this hands-on workshop, explore the beauty and detail of Persian painting, a tradition celebrated for its fine ornamentation and storytelling. Inspired by miniature paintings and decorative elements from the Aga Khan Museum’s Collections, participants will learn how artists of the past combined colour, pattern, and design to bring scenes to life.

Guided by their Museum Educators, you’ll create your own decorated bookmark to take home, with templates connected to the themes of Hina Matsuri.

This is a free workshop!

*Notes

  • For children under the age of 12, they are required to be accompanied by an adult.
