Shifting Skies, Changing Forms

An Exhibition of Japanese Canadian Legacies, Community Fund Arts Recipients

Shifting Skies, Changing Forms evocatively represents how the artists in the exhibition examine very personal and family histories and the translation of these experiences through generations. They explore history, identity, transformation, and reconstruction, not only of historical materials but also of our understanding of how this difficult and complex past has influenced identity, sense of self, and artistic expression.

Artists are:

  • Emiko Tatebe Berman
  • Gail Burgin
  • Suzanne Ruth Liska
  • Barbara “Miiko” Nishimura-Gravlin
  • Paula Tamiko Potts
  • Stephanie Akiko Takagi
  • Roddy Isao Tasaka
  • The Kimono Remake Project

Their work honours our elders past and present as we strive to remember our heritage and develop a strong Japanese Canadian identity. The exhibit has evolved into an incredible multi-disciplinary celebration of film, dance, and fashion in Kobayashi Hall for our opening and an exceptional exhibit featuring both sculpture and wall art in the gallery.

We look forward to seeing you at the performance and gallery exhibit “Shifting Skies, Changing Forms” at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. See more information here
