Description

David Azuma was born on June 3, 1926 in Toronto, Ontario. The interview is about David Azuma and his family life in Toronto, Ontario (prior to age eight), Tokyo, Japan (prior and during World War II) and his family's return to Toronto in 1949. He discusses his father’s working conditions in Toronto and recounts his own working conditions in an electronics lab and speaker company in Tokyo. He discusses his own education through a Toronto Catholic School, Japanese temple school in Tokyo, a crash course in electronics, collegiate, Ryerson University, and summer courses at University of Toronto. Through the help of the Japanese Canadian Citizenship Association, he returned to Toronto with his family and started a club with and for ‘returnees’ from Japan. David went on to become involved with the Toronto Buddhist Church, serving as a Sunday school supervisor, President, and Chairman for fundraising until his wife’s death. While he spends most of his time with his thirteen grandchildren, he is becoming more active in the community as a member of the Senior Citizens at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre.
