5 Generations exhibit

5 Generations (Permanent)

The 5 Generations exhibit, curated for the Moriyama Nikkei Heritage Centre (MNHC) by David Fujiwara, revolves around the experience of Japanese Canadians from the late 1800’s until the present day, highlighting unique stories of Canadians of Japanese ancestry. Using photographs, artifacts, and personal stories, the exhibit focuses on the struggles and triumphs of Japanese Canadians from early settlement, through internment during World War II, and into the resettlement period either east of the Rocky Mountains or in Japan.

The original 1996 exhibit was created by the Multicultural History Society of Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Toronto Nikkei Archives and Resource Centre of the National Association of Japanese Canadians, Toronto Chapter. It was brought to life again in 2013 with new stories from the Ijusha (new immigrant) community for the opening of the Moriyama Nikkei Heritage Centre.
