Rubiko “Ruby” Fukumoto was born on March 12th, 1925, in Edmonton, Alberta. She moved to Japan with her mother and brother in her early childhood before returning to Canada and settling in Victoria, British Columbia. Ruby describes her life before WWII as happy and active, including working for the famed artist Emily Carr in Victoria. In April 1942, Ruby and her family were relocated to Hastings Park and eventually interned at Bay Farm, B.C. After WWII, Ruby and her family moved to Chatham, Ontario. Ruby describes her life after she moved to Toronto and gained employment as an office worker. Ruby married Shik and had three sons. She would later work and volunteer at her church. Ruby happily talks about traveling and visiting with her relatives in Japan, Mexico, Hawaii and Germany.
