The Haru Matsuri Committee is working hard to develop both virtual and in-person activities for the annual JCCC tradition.

Happy Girl’s Day from the JCCC!
March 3rd is the traditional celebration of Girl’s Day in Japan. The JCCC Haru Matsuri/Spring Festival takes place the first weekend of March each year and is closest to this celebration, so we proudly display our Hina Ningyo (traditional dolls). See the whole process as our volunteers put it all together.

Whether here or in Japan, one of the sure signs that spring is on it’s way is the appearance of sakura blooms. Here is your chance to urge on the beginning of spring, and to celebrate our tradition of Haru Matsuri/Spring Festival, by creating this fun sakura acrylic painting.
Join us at the JCCC, as we team up with Leisl from Artist’s Palette Durham to offer a fun afternoon of painting on Sunday March 6 from 12:00pm (to approximately 2:00pm).
This event is offered to participants 12 year and up. The cost is $40 for JCCC members and $45 for non-members.
All participants must show proof of full vaccination upon entry.
All painting supplies will be provided, but we suggest that you bring an apron to protect your clothing. It is also suggested to bring a bottle of water or a drink with you as there are no food services on site.
Deadline for registration is Friday March 4, 2022 @ 7pm
So while we can’t hold our normal festival, we hope that you will join us for one of our first workshops at the JCCC and a step towards more activities at the JCCC.

Maru: Immigration Stories Guided Tours
Please join us at the JCCC for a special Guided Tour of the Maru: Immigration Stories exhibit in the MNHC.
Maru: Immigration Stories - The Japanese diaspora in the Americas is part of a global network of communities known as Nikkei with over 150 years of history. Possessing only ambition, they sailed to lands far away including Canada, United States of America, Hawaii, Peru, and Brazil. Their histories reflect a way of life that resonates with many dispersed communities across the world.
As part of our Haru Matsuri on-site offerings, guided tours will be offered on Sunday March 6 at 11:00am and 12:00pm.
All participants must show proof of full vaccination upon entry.
Deadline for registration is Saturday, March 6, 2022.
