Description

Roy Kazuyoshi Nakagawa's interview was conducted on July 24, 2019 by Su Yen Chong.

Roy Kazoyoshi Nakagawa was born in Ocean Falls, British Columbia, on April 14th, 1928. In his interview, he speaks about his mother and father’s family history, growing up in Ocean Falls, being forcibly relocated to Vancouver, and being interned with his family in Slocan City. After spending two years in Slocan City, he and his family moved to Regina, Sasketchewan, where he spent his high school years in a largely non-Japanese community. After WWII, he attended the University of Manitoba in mechanical engineering and received a job to work at AV Roe in Toronto. He maintained various engineering jobs before he settled to work at Atomic Energy for 25 years. He then speaks about his family and the recreational activities he partakes in today with the Japanese Canadian community. He emphasizes the importance of encouraging his children to pursue higher education, as his parents did the same for him.
