Description

In the interview, Raymond begins with describing his childhood in Vancouver, where his family lived on Cordova Street. Despite suffering servere burns to his body in a childhood accident, Raymond excelled at school and dreamed of one day becoming an architect. During the forced relocation of Japanese Canadians, Raymond's father was sent to a P.O.W. camp in Ontario, and Raymond, his mother, and his two sisters were sent to Hastings Park. Later, the family was interned in Slocan City, where Raymond continued to improve his goals, even building a secret tree house. Raymond also spent some time in Popoff Camp and Lemon Creek. After being interned, Raymond and his family reunited with his father in Ontario, where they settled in Hamilton. After attending the University of Toronto and McGill University, Raymond Moriyama achieved his dream of becoming an architect, and has designed some of Canada's most famous buildings. He is the husband of Sachi Moriyama (nee Miyochi), with whom he has five children and ten grandchildren.
