1 ON 1 online Japanese Conversation might be an answer to your needs.

ONLINE CONVERSATIONAL LESSONS FOR INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED STUDENTS:

Geared to intermediate or advanced students, 1 ON 1 Online Japanese Conversation is the JCCC online program (via Zoom) that focuses on conversation based learnings. This will help you to develop your Japanese language skills in a direct one and one basis.

All of our instructors are native Japanese speakers who are experienced/certified with Japanese language teaching techniques, who are also fluent in English.

Lesson content and format are customizable on a student by student basis.

This program is for students 18 years of age or older. Hiragana reading skills are a requirement.

LESSONS AT YOUR CONVENIENCE:

Learn anytime to best suit your own convenience and preferred schedule. Lesson dates and times to be coordinated with your instructor in advance. Classes may be taken up to twice per week or once every 1-3 weeks according to students’ desire. All lessons must be completed within a 3 month period (effective from the first lesson date).

All funds from the 1 ON 1 Japanese Conversation program go directly to supporting the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, activities at the JCCC have been severely curtailed. Our instructors are all donating their time and expertise to support the JCCC until normal activities resume.

Join us for a fascinating look into the world of Japan’s national drink with international sake sommelier and educator Mariko Tajiri. Starting June 25 Mariko will present three independent 90-minute seminars, each addressing a different facet of sake and the culture around its creation and enjoyment.

Seminars are conducted over ZOOM. Each is 90 minutes and the fee is $35 per seminar, however connoisseurs taking all 3 seminars will be charged just $95.

About Mariko Tajiri

Mariko is an international sake educator and promoter working a National Brand Manager for That’s Life in Canada, a wine and sake importer based in Vancouver and Toronto. She has been working with sake for over 12 years with a portfolio including producers such as Jikon, Sharaku,

Kuheiji, Matsumoto, Hououbiden and Tengumai. Mariko became an IWC (International Wine Challenge) sake judge in 2017. She has done amazing things in the sake world and has been instrumental in putting sake in a different context.

She now teaches with WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust), a wine school based in London, UK and this curriculum has really brought sake education together. She also teaches in BC, Alberta and Ontario.

Are you 55+? Newly retired? Following the Ontario “Stay at Home” guidelines? BORED!?!

Then this may be the opportunity for you! The JCCC has teamed up with Artist’s Palette Durham to offer a fun afternoon of painting on Thursday June 10, 2021 from 1:30pm (to approximately 4:00pm).

Everyone is invited to grab a drink and maybe some snacks and together we will be expertly guided to finish the painting “Cool Koi Pond.” NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!

This event is $20 for JCCC members and $25 for non-members.

Art kits can be purchased for just an additional $22. This kit includes one canvas, one brush set and 5 – 30 ml containers of paint.

Or SAVE by purchasing the bundle. JCCC members can get the class and art kit for just $40 and non-members for $45.

Deadline for registration is Monday June 7, 2021

If you have purchased an art kit, the JCCC will follow up to arrange a curbside pickup date and time (after June 1, 2021).

If you do not wish to purchase an art kit the recommended supplies are:

Acrylic paint in white, black, yellow, red and blue
An assortment of art brushes
A 16” x 20 “ stretched canvas (recommended size)

Webinar Series hosted by JCCC and guest speaker Shotaro Ozawa (日本語は英語の後に続きます。)

The JCCC zoom live seminar “Drinks of Japan”

Is a series of online seminars, which will provide In-depth insights into different Japanese drinks.

The series will be led by Shotaro Ozawa, who is a certified Kikisake-shi, Sake Expert and Japanese food specialist and also the president of Ozawa Canada, which is a pioneer in the importation and distribution of quality Japanese foods, beers, premium sakes and spirits.

The live seminar will be broadcasted via Zoom from a different featured restaurant in GTA. Discussions with restaurant chefs about pairings will allow participants to learn (and enjoy) more about Japanese drinks and foods.

You will also be able to purchase drinks and food in advance and enjoy them in your home or - if permitted - partake in dine-in operations at the restaurant exclusively for the live seminar (with COVID-19 protocols in place)!

A Joint Project with Sakuramai TO

The JCCC is excited to announce a series of Yosakoi dance workshops offered in partnership with Sakuramai Toronto!

Yosakoi is an energetic Japanese style dance that is fun and easy to learn. During this difficult time of social distancing, let’s connect through Sakuramai Toronto’s fun online workshops and keep our community alive!

Once the children learn the dance, we encourage them to keep practicing at home so when the pandemic is over we will meet and dance together at the JCCC! Let’s connect and even find a new friend through this experience.

Individual and Group Registration Welcome!

Joining an online Yosakoi dance class is a fun way to get your children to be active at home, and interact with other children. Who knows, they may even make new friends. Or if they miss their old friends, why not get together and register as a group? If they have friends they want to connect with, sign up as a group and take advantage of the group discount.
