In the late 19th century, the Tokugawa Shogunate dispatched two landmark diplomatic delegations of samurai representatives to North America to renegotiate treaties. This exhibition includes rare historic photographs – including portraits – of these samurai delegates from the missions sent to the U.S. before and after the Meiji Restoration in 1860 and 1871.

Opening Reception: Friday, June 29th at 7pm

Welcome words from Consul General Ito. Introduction by co-organizer Andreas Boettcher and short lecture by producer Miro Ito, followed by a brief performance of sword techniques choreographed with ballet by Shunso.
