“One might find the tremendous emotional swells of Close-Knit so moving at times that one can barely hear the sound of fresh ground being broken in Japanese cinema” – The Film Stage

Naoko Ogigami’s deeply humane and heartwarming drama won the Teddy Award at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Audince Choice Award at New York’s Japan Cuts Festival. 11-year-old Tomo (Rinka Kakihara) is abandoned by her mother.  She is taken in by her uncle Makio (Kenta Kiritani) lives with his beautiful girlfriend Rinko (Toma Ikuta).  Rinko is a trans-gendered woman who works as a caregiver at a home for the elderly.  Together the three start their new life as a family. A beautiful, brave and extraordinary film.
