Traditional Japanese dance re-imagined for the 21st century

On Wednesday March 1, 2017, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre brings you Geimaruza – a world-renowned troupe of Japanese dancers – for an evening of breathtaking beauty and entertainment.

Geimaruza choreographers reach back to the origins of Japanese classical dance as popular entertainment, to create dynamic performances full of energy, humour and emotion. The result is as graceful and beautiful as traditional Kabuki dance – and as thrilling and fun as a blockbuster movie.
The performers are graduates in traditional dance from Tokyo University of the Arts, with a deep knowledge of authentic Japanese culture. They formed Geimaruza in order to revitalize their ancient art for present-day audiences.

Geimaruza have delighted audiences across Asia, Europe and South America. This single performance will be their only appearance in Canada on this tour.
Accompanying them will be the Wagakki Orchestra – a group of Japanese musicians playing traditional instruments such as the shamisen (Japanese lute), koto (Japanese harp) and taiko (drum).
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience a unique aspect of Japanese culture – and enjoy an evening of thrilling entertainment you will long remember!
